in recruiting individuals with experience serving people with
significant disabilities in California communities; with the Family
Teaching Model (FTM); and persons experienced in working with persons
residing at Agnews Development Center.

Family Teaching Couple
The Family Teaching Couple
provides a high quality of life for up to three persons served. In the
Family-Teaching Model, the Family Teaching Couple and their immediate
family occupies one side of a duplex or attached home as their
permanent residence while the individuals served live together on the
adjoining side. The Family Teaching Couple manages all services and
activities occurring in their assigned home and supervises a staff of
2-4 Teaching Counselors. This position is responsible for teaching new
skills and managing behaviors to maximize independence in activities of
daily living. The Family Teaching Couple’s work is primarily performed
in the home setting but also in any location they are in with the
individual’s they support. Family Teaching Couples are extensively
trained, evaluated and certified, and receive considerable clinical
support from a variety of professionals.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or
equivalent (Bachelor’s degree or post high school in a human services,
social services, or healthcare field preferred)
- Experience working directly
with people having a range of developmental disabilities, preferably in
community settings
- Ability to work well
independently with strong skills in time management, delegation,
follow-up, organization and handling several family and home-making
tasks simultaneously
- Prior experience and/or
training in the areas of supervision, home-making, and home or program
management a plus
Teaching Counselor
The primary responsibility of
the Teaching Counselor is to teach skills and behaviors to maximize
independence in activities of daily living for a few persons with
developmental disabilities living within a FTM home. Teaching
Counselors teach persons served to learn new and adaptive skills using
best practice teaching techniques. CCO will be hiring Teaching
Counselors to work schedules during the day time and overnight hours in
a variety of residential settings throughout the Bay Area.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or
equivalent (post high-school education in a human services field
preferred)
- One year prior experience
working with people having a range of developmental disabilities or
Prior experience with the Family Teaching Model a plus
- other dependent populations,
and preferably in community settings
- Ability to recognize natural
teaching opportunities and act upon them
- Willingness to handle all
aspects of personal care with sensitivity and caring
